Painting Commissions

Commissioning a custom painting is an easy, straightforward process. I use a standard, proven, traditional process that delivers fantastic results to create an heirloom in oil paint for you and your family or business, enshrining your memories in paint.

1. Let’s talk about your vision
  • Do you already have an idea of what you would like? Great!
  • Need some input? Wondering what would make a fantastic painting? Backgrounds or symbols that would be meaningful? Combining this into a multi-portrait or including a beloved pet?
  • I can help develop a cohesive plan so that you know what you’re going to get, risk-free. Reserve your space now.
2. Agree on a timeline
  • Is this for a special event such as a birthday or an anniversary? Or do you have a more open timeline?
  • Larger, more detailed works with multiple figures or portraits will take longer to complete than paintings with fewer of these details.
  • I usually have several pieces on the waitlist, so please inquire about shorter timelines.
3. Agree on the deliverables and the price
  • How large do you want the artwork?
  • Do you have an acceptable photo reference or do we need to arrange for a photo shoot?
  • Will this be done on-site at your home or place of business?
  • Is this a multi-figure painting with detailed backgrounds and symbols or is the style more simple with a single portrait?
  • Want a frame provided or something you would prefer to pick that matches your decor?
  • Many things go into determining the price. Prices start around $1,000 and typical clients tend to decide on artwork that costs around $4,000. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before work begins.
4. Get timely updates and progress reports
  • I provide a detailed project plan outlining the the various steps of the process and estimated timelines so you’ll always know where your artwork is in development
  • I send progress pictures and make sure you’re happy at every step
5. Final acceptance and delivery
  • You’ll review and accept the final painting
  • If possible I will hand deliver your painting. If this is not possible, your finished painting will be packaged securely, insured and shipped to you
  • This is an heirloom, and I want you to absolutely love the result
